I too have been lurking. I'm not a pro as well, but it's nice to have a place where I can learn about this stuff.

I don't know if I'll ever compete, but I do plan on becoming a personal trainer, and I want to be a damn good one.

About the fruit, you might want to cut back on the fruit so late in the day. Usually not past your fourth meal. To many carbs late at night or too late in the day is not good if you are wanting to loss weight or get toned. It creates alot of sugar, which is stored instead of burned. Try to replace the fruit for your last meals with veggies or protein. You could also switch up your meals, you could try, For instance:
1st meal breakfast,like eggs,oatmeal,blueberies
2nd meal snack, such as a shake, protein bar, or fruit.
3rd meal Lunch, chicken brown rice or corn tortillas brocolli.
4th meal snack, shake, bar, or nuts.
5th meal dinner,chicken,fish,or shrimp,green beans,one corn tortilla
6th meal snack, small chicken breast or lean turkey. Give it try, Best Reguards,Mandi

Thanks, Mandi! I'll give it a try. I was afraid you would say that about the fruit late in the day. I've gotten into the habit of eating something sweet after dinner. Does the no fruit late in the day thing apply if I'm doing a weight lifting workout in the evening? I've heard you should eat carbs before lifting - true? And what about dairy? I eat non-fat yogurt and have been putting skim milk in my protein shake before I do my morning cardio. Should I cut back on the dairy?

Thanks so much for your input everyone! Julia

Hey Julia,

You do want to have carbs (with protein) after an intense workout, no matter when you workout. But you should minimize your carb intake at night besides your post-workout meal or drink.
